Evaṃ me sutaṃ – ekaṃ samayaṃ bhagavā magadhesu cārikaṃ caramāno mahatā bhikkhusaṅghena saddhiṃ pañcamattehi bhikkhusatehi yena khāṇumataṃ nāma magadhānaṃ brāhmaṇagāmo tadavasari. Tatra sudaṃ bhagavā khāṇumate viharati ambalaṭṭhikāyaṃ. Tena kho pana samayena kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo khāṇumataṃ ajjhāvasati sattussadaṃ satiṇakaṭṭhodakaṃ sadhaññaṃ rājabhoggaṃ raññā māgadhena seniyena bimbisārena dinnaṃ rājadāyaṃ brahmadeyyaṃ. Tena kho pana samayena kūṭadantassa brāhmaṇassa mahāyañño upakkhaṭo hoti. Satta ca usabhasatāni satta ca vacchatarasatāni satta ca vacchatarīsatāni satta ca ajasatāni satta ca urabbhasatāni thūṇūpanītāni honti yaññatthāya.
如是我闻:一时,世尊在马嘎达国游行,与大比库僧团——约五百位比库同行,到达一个名叫伽奴马达的婆罗门村。在那里,世尊住在伽奴马达的庵婆园。当时,估多旦多婆罗门居住在人众稠密、草木水源丰富、谷物充足的伽奴马达,这是马嘎达国的色尼亚·宾比萨拉王所赐的王领地、梵授地。当时,估多旦多婆罗门正准备举行大祭祀:七百头公牛、七百头小公牛、七百头母牛、七百头山羊、七百只公羊被系在祭祀柱上准备祭祀。

Assosuṃ kho khāṇumatakā brāhmaṇagahapatikā – ‘‘samaṇo khalu, bho, gotamo sakyaputto sakyakulā pabbajito magadhesu cārikaṃ caramāno mahatā bhikkhusaṅghena saddhiṃ pañcamattehi bhikkhusatehi khāṇumataṃ anuppatto khāṇumate viharati ambalaṭṭhikāyaṃ. Taṃ kho pana bhavantaṃ gotamaṃ evaṃ kalyāṇo kittisaddo abbhuggato – ‘itipi so bhagavā arahaṃ sammāsambuddho vijjācaraṇasampanno sugato lokavidū anuttaro purisadammasārathi satthā devamanussānaṃ buddho bhagavā’ti . So imaṃ lokaṃ sadevakaṃ samārakaṃ sabrahmakaṃ sassamaṇabrāhmaṇiṃ pajaṃ sadevamanussaṃ sayaṃ abhiññā sacchikatvā pavedeti. So dhammaṃ deseti ādikalyāṇaṃ majjhekalyāṇaṃ pariyosānakalyāṇaṃ sātthaṃ sabyañjanaṃ kevalaparipuṇṇaṃ parisuddhaṃ brahmacariyaṃ pakāseti. Sādhu kho pana tathārūpānaṃ arahataṃ dassanaṃ hotī’’ti.
伽奴马达的婆罗门居士们听闻:「实在啊,诸贤,释迦子沙门果德玛从释迦家族出家,在马嘎达国游行,与大比库僧团——约五百位比库同行,到达了伽奴马达,住在伽奴马达的庵婆园。关于那位尊者果德玛,如此美好的声誉传扬开来:『他确实是世尊、阿拉汉、正自觉者、明行具足、善逝、世间解、无上调御丈夫、天人师、佛陀、世尊。』他以自己的智证,宣说包括天、魔、梵的世界,包括沙门、婆罗门、天人的众生。他说法初善、中善、后善,有义有文,宣示圆满清净的梵行。善哉,得见如此阿拉汉!」

Atha kho khāṇumatakā brāhmaṇagahapatikā khāṇumatā nikkhamitvā saṅghasaṅghī gaṇībhūtā yena ambalaṭṭhikā tenupasaṅkamanti.
于是伽奴马达的婆罗门居士们从伽奴马达出来,成群结队地前往庵婆园。

Tena kho pana samayena kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo uparipāsāde divāseyyaṃ upagato hoti. Addasā kho kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo khāṇumatake brāhmaṇagahapatike khāṇumatā nikkhamitvā saṅghasaṅghī gaṇībhūte yena ambalaṭṭhikā tenupasaṅkamante. Disvā khattaṃ āmantesi – ‘‘kiṃ nu kho, bho khatte, khāṇumatakā brāhmaṇagahapatikā khāṇumatā nikkhamitvā saṅghasaṅghī gaṇībhūtā yena ambalaṭṭhikā tenupasaṅkamantī’’ti?
当时,估多旦多婆罗门正在高楼上午休。估多旦多婆罗门看见伽奴马达的婆罗门居士们从伽奴马达出来,成群结队地前往庵婆园。见后,他问侍者:「侍者,为什么伽奴马达的婆罗门居士们从伽奴马达出来,成群结队地前往庵婆园呢?」

‘‘Atthi kho, bho, samaṇo gotamo sakyaputto sakyakulā pabbajito magadhesu cārikaṃ caramāno mahatā bhikkhusaṅghena saddhiṃ pañcamattehi bhikkhusatehi khāṇumataṃ anuppatto, khāṇumate viharati ambalaṭṭhikāyaṃ. Taṃ kho pana bhavantaṃ gotamaṃ evaṃ kalyāṇo kittisaddo abbhuggato – ‘itipi so bhagavā arahaṃ sammāsambuddho vijjācaraṇasampanno sugato lokavidū anuttaro purisadammasārathi satthā devamanussānaṃ buddho bhagavā’ti. Tamete bhavantaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamantī’’ti.
「尊者,有释迦子沙门果德玛从释迦家族出家,在马嘎达国游行,与大比库僧团——约五百位比库同行,到达了伽奴马达,住在伽奴马达的庵婆园。关于那位尊者果德玛,如此美好的声誉传扬开来:『他确实是世尊、阿拉汉、正自觉者、明行具足、善逝、世间解、无上调御丈夫、天人师、佛陀、世尊。』他以自己的智证,宣说包括天、魔、梵的世界,包括沙门、婆罗门、天人的众生。他说法初善、中善、后善,有义有文,宣示圆满清净的梵行。善哉,得见如此阿拉汉!他们就是为了见他而去。」

Atha kho kūṭadantassa brāhmaṇassa etadahosi – ‘‘sutaṃ kho pana metaṃ – ‘samaṇo gotamo tividhaṃ yaññasampadaṃ soḷasaparikkhāraṃ jānātī’ti. Na kho panāhaṃ jānāmi tividhaṃ yaññasampadaṃ soḷasaparikkhāraṃ. Icchāmi cāhaṃ mahāyaññaṃ yajituṃ. Yaṃnūnāhaṃ samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ upasaṅkamitvā tividhaṃ yaññasampadaṃ soḷasaparikkhāraṃ puccheyya’’nti.
于是估多旦多婆罗门心想:「我曾听闻:『沙门果德玛了知三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具。』而我现在正准备举行大祭祀,但不了知三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具。不如我前去拜见沙门果德玛,请教三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具。」

Atha kho kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo khattaṃ āmantesi – ‘‘tena hi, bho khatte, yena khāṇumatakā brāhmaṇagahapatikā tenupasaṅkama. Upasaṅkamitvā khāṇumatake brāhmaṇagahapatike evaṃ vadehi – ‘kūṭadanto, bho, brāhmaṇo evamāha – ‘‘āgamentu kira bhavanto, kūṭadantopi brāhmaṇo samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamissatī’’’ti. ‘‘Evaṃ, bho’’ti kho so khattā kūṭadantassa brāhmaṇassa paṭissutvā yena khāṇumatakā brāhmaṇagahapatikā tenupasaṅkami. Upasaṅkamitvā khāṇumatake brāhmaṇagahapatike etadavoca – ‘‘kūṭadanto, bho, brāhmaṇo evamāha – ‘āgamentu kira bhonto, kūṭadantopi brāhmaṇo samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamissatī’’’ti.
尔时,古德当德婆罗门告诉卡提:「那么,尊敬的卡提,你去到卡奴玛德的婆罗门居士们那里。去到后,对卡奴玛德的婆罗门居士们这样说:『诸位尊敬的,古德当德婆罗门这样说:"请诸位来吧,古德当德婆罗门也将前往拜见沙门果德玛。"』」「是的,尊敬的」,那位卡提答应了古德当德婆罗门后,就去到卡奴玛德的婆罗门居士们那里。去到后,对卡奴玛德的婆罗门居士们这样说:「诸位尊敬的,古德当德婆罗门这样说:『请诸位来吧,古德当德婆罗门也将前往拜见沙门果德玛。』」

Tena kho pana samayena anekāni brāhmaṇasatāni khāṇumate paṭivasanti – ‘‘kūṭadantassa brāhmaṇassa mahāyaññaṃ anubhavissāmā’’ti. Assosuṃ kho te brāhmaṇā – ‘‘kūṭadanto kira brāhmaṇo samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamissatī’’ti. Atha kho te brāhmaṇā yena kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo tenupasaṅkamiṃsu.
那时,数百位婆罗门住在伽奴马达,「为了参与估多旦多婆罗门的大供养祭」。那些婆罗门们听说:「估多旦多婆罗门据说将去见沙门果德玛」。那时,那些婆罗门们去到估多旦多婆罗门那里。

Upasaṅkamitvā kūṭadantaṃ brāhmaṇaṃ etadavocuṃ – ‘‘saccaṃ kira bhavaṃ kūṭadanto samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamissatī’’ti? ‘‘Evaṃ kho me, bho, hoti – ‘ahampi samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamissāmī’’’ti.
他们前往估多旦多婆罗门处,对估多旦多婆罗门说:「据说尊者估多旦多竟要去拜见沙门果德玛?」「是的,诸贤,我确实打算去拜见沙门果德玛。」
‘‘Mā bhavaṃ kūṭadanto samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkami. Na arahati bhavaṃ kūṭadanto samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ. Sace bhavaṃ kūṭadanto samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamissati, bhoto kūṭadantassa yaso hāyissati, samaṇassa gotamassa yaso abhivaḍḍhissati. Yampi bhoto kūṭadantassa yaso hāyissati, samaṇassa gotamassa yaso abhivaḍḍhissati, imināpaṅgena na arahati bhavaṃ kūṭadanto samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ. Samaṇo tveva gotamo arahati bhavantaṃ kūṭadantaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ .
「尊者姑德登德不应该前往拜见沙门果德玛。尊者姑德登德不值得前往拜见沙门果德玛。如果尊者姑德登德前往拜见沙门果德玛,尊者姑德登德的名望将会减损,沙门果德玛的名望将会增长。由于尊者姑德登德的名望将会减损,沙门果德玛的名望将会增长,因为这个原因,尊者姑德登德不值得前往拜见沙门果德玛。应该是沙门果德玛前来拜见尊者姑德登德才对。」
‘‘Bhavañhi kūṭadanto ubhato sujāto mātito ca pitito ca saṃsuddhagahaṇiko yāva sattamā pitāmahayugā akkhitto anupakkuṭṭho jātivādena. Yampi bhavaṃ kūṭadanto ubhato sujāto mātito ca pitito ca saṃsuddhagahaṇiko yāva sattamā pitāmahayugā akkhitto anupakkuṭṭho jātivādena, imināpaṅgena na arahati bhavaṃ kūṭadanto samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ. Samaṇo tveva gotamo arahati bhavantaṃ kūṭadantaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ.
「具寿裤德但德确实双方善生,由母方、由父方,血统清净,直至七代祖先,在出生论上未被指责、未被非难。虽然具寿裤德但德双方善生,由母方、由父方,血统清净,直至七代祖先,在出生论上未被指责、未被非难,但以此因缘,具寿裤德但德不适合前往拜见沙门果德玛。而沙门果德玛确实适合前来拜见具寿裤德但德。」

「尊者库嗒但德住在卡努玛德,这是人众繁荣、水草丰茂、有稻谷的王家财产,是马嘎达王谢尼耶宾比萨拉所给予的王赐,是婆罗门赐。尊者库嗒但德住在卡努玛德,这是人众繁荣、水草丰茂、有稻谷的王家财产,是马嘎达王谢尼耶宾比萨拉所给予的王赐,是婆罗门赐,凭这一点,尊者库嗒但德不应该前往拜见沙门果德玛。而是沙门果德玛应该前来拜见尊者库嗒但德。」

Evaṃ vutte kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo te brāhmaṇe etadavoca –
如是说已,估多旦多婆罗门对那些婆罗门说——
‘‘Tena hi, bho, mamapi suṇātha, yathā mayameva arahāma taṃ bhavantaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ, na tveva arahati so bhavaṃ gotamo amhākaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ. Samaṇo khalu, bho, gotamo ubhato sujāto mātito ca pitito ca saṃsuddhagahaṇiko yāva sattamā pitāmahayugā akkhitto anupakkuṭṭho jātivādena. Yampi, bho, samaṇo gotamo ubhato sujāto mātito ca pitito ca saṃsuddhagahaṇiko yāva sattamā pitāmahayugā akkhitto anupakkuṭṭho jātivādena, imināpaṅgena na arahati so bhavaṃ gotamo amhākaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ. Atha kho mayameva arahāma taṃ bhavantaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ.
「那么,尊者们,也请听我说,为何我们应该去见彼果德玛尊者,而非彼果德玛尊者应该来见我们。尊者们,沙门果德玛从母方和父方两方面出生良好,血统纯净,直到七代父祖,在出生方面无可指责、无可非难。尊者们,因为沙门果德玛从母方和父方两方面出生良好,血统纯净,直到七代父祖,在出生方面无可指责、无可非难,以此理由,彼果德玛尊者不应该来见我们,而是我们应该去见彼果德玛尊者。

Atha kho mayameva arahāma taṃ bhavantaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ. Ettake kho ahaṃ, bho, tassa bhoto gotamassa vaṇṇe pariyāpuṇāmi, no ca kho so bhavaṃ gotamo ettakavaṇṇo. Aparimāṇavaṇṇo hi so bhavaṃ gotamo’’ti.

Evaṃ vutte, te brāhmaṇā kūṭadantaṃ brāhmaṇaṃ etadavocuṃ – ‘‘yathā kho bhavaṃ kūṭadanto samaṇassa gotamassa vaṇṇe bhāsati, ito cepi so bhavaṃ gotamo yojanasate viharati, alameva saddhena kulaputtena dassanāya upasaṅkamituṃ api puṭosenā’’ti. ‘‘Tena hi, bho, sabbeva mayaṃ samaṇaṃ gotamaṃ dassanāya upasaṅkamissāmā’’ti.
如是说已,那些婆罗门对估多旦多婆罗门说:「按照尊者估多旦多对沙门果德玛功德的称赞,即使那位尊者果德玛住在百由旬之外,有信心的善男子也应该前去拜见,即使背着干粮。」「那么,诸贤,我们大家一起去拜见沙门果德玛吧。」

Atha kho kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo mahatā brāhmaṇagaṇena saddhiṃ yena ambalaṭṭhikā yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami, upasaṅkamitvā bhagavatā saddhiṃ sammodi . Sammodanīyaṃ kathaṃ sāraṇīyaṃ vītisāretvā ekamantaṃ nisīdi. Khāṇumatakāpi kho brāhmaṇagahapatikā appekacce bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu; appekacce bhagavatā saddhiṃ sammodiṃsu, sammodanīyaṃ kathaṃ sāraṇīyaṃ vītisāretvā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu; appekacce yena bhagavā tenañjaliṃ paṇāmetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu; appekacce nāmagottaṃ sāvetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu; appekacce tuṇhībhūtā ekamantaṃ nisīdiṃsu.

Ekamantaṃ nisinno kho kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo bhagavantaṃ etadavoca – ‘‘sutaṃ metaṃ, bho gotama – ‘samaṇo gotamo tividhaṃ yaññasampadaṃ soḷasaparikkhāraṃ jānātī’ti. Na kho panāhaṃ jānāmi tividhaṃ yaññasampadaṃ soḷasaparikkhāraṃ. Icchāmi cāhaṃ mahāyaññaṃ yajituṃ. Sādhu me bhavaṃ gotamo tividhaṃ yaññasampadaṃ soḷasaparikkhāraṃ desetū’’ti.
坐在一旁的估多旦多婆罗门对世尊说:「尊者果德玛,我曾听闻:『沙门果德玛了知三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具。』而我现在正准备举行大祭祀,但不了知三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具。善哉,若尊者果德玛能为我教导三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具。」

Bhagavā etadavoca – ‘‘bhūtapubbaṃ, brāhmaṇa , rājā mahāvijito nāma ahosi aḍḍho mahaddhano mahābhogo pahūtajātarūparajato pahūtavittūpakaraṇo pahūtadhanadhañño paripuṇṇakosakoṭṭhāgāro. ‘‘Evaṃ vutte, brāhmaṇa, purohito brāhmaṇo rājānaṃ mahāvijitaṃ etadavoca – ‘bhoto kho rañño janapado sakaṇṭako sauppīḷo, gāmaghātāpi dissanti, nigamaghātāpi dissanti, nagaraghātāpi dissanti , panthaduhanāpi dissanti. Bhavaṃ kho pana rājā evaṃ sakaṇṭake janapade sauppīḷe balimuddhareyya, akiccakārī assa tena bhavaṃ rājā. Siyā kho pana bhoto rañño evamassa – ‘‘ahametaṃ dassukhīlaṃ vadhena vā bandhena vā jāniyā vā garahāya vā pabbājanāya vā samūhanissāmī’’ti, na kho panetassa dassukhīlassa evaṃ sammā samugghāto hoti. Ye te hatāvasesakā bhavissanti, te pacchā rañño janapadaṃ viheṭhessanti. Api ca kho idaṃ saṃvidhānaṃ āgamma evametassa dassukhīlassa sammā samugghāto hoti. Tena hi bhavaṃ rājā ye bhoto rañño janapade ussahanti kasigorakkhe, tesaṃ bhavaṃ rājā bījabhattaṃ anuppadetu. Ye bhoto rañño janapade ussahanti vāṇijjāya, tesaṃ bhavaṃ rājā pābhataṃ anuppadetu. Ye bhoto rañño janapade ussahanti rājaporise, tesaṃ bhavaṃ rājā bhattavetanaṃ pakappetu. Te ca manussā sakammapasutā rañño janapadaṃ na viheṭhessanti; mahā ca rañño rāsiko bhavissati. Khemaṭṭhitā janapadā akaṇṭakā anuppīḷā. Manussā mudā modamānā ure putte naccentā apārutagharā maññe viharissantī’ti. ‘Evaṃ, bho’ti kho, brāhmaṇa, rājā mahāvijito purohitassa brāhmaṇassa paṭissutvā ye rañño janapade ussahiṃsu kasigorakkhe, tesaṃ rājā mahāvijito bījabhattaṃ anuppadāsi. Ye ca rañño janapade ussahiṃsu vāṇijjāya, tesaṃ rājā mahāvijito pābhataṃ anuppadāsi. Ye ca rañño janapade ussahiṃsu rājaporise, tesaṃ rājā mahāvijito bhattavetanaṃ pakappesi. Anusāsatu maṃ bhavaṃ yaṃ mama assa dīgharattaṃ hitāya sukhāyā’ti.
「如是说时,婆罗门,大臣婆罗门对大胜王如是说:『尊者王的国土有刺、受压迫,可见到村落的杀戮,可见到市镇的杀戮,可见到城市的杀戮,可见到道路的抢劫。然而尊者王如果在这样有刺、受压迫的国土征收重税,尊者王将是做不应做者。尊者王或许会这样想:「我将以杀戮、或以束缚、或以没收、或以谴责、或以放逐来根除这盗贼群」,但这盗贼群不能以这样正确地根除。那些残余未被杀者将在之后伤害王的国土。但是,依靠这个方法,这盗贼群能被正确地根除。那么,尊者王,对那些在尊者王国土中努力从事耕作与养牛者,尊者王应给予种子与食物。对那些在尊者王国土中努力从事商业者,尊者王应给予资本。对那些在尊者王国土中努力从事王的服务者,尊者王应分配食物与薪酬。那些人们专注于自己工作时,将不伤害王的国土;王将有大财富。国土将安全地住立、无刺、不受压迫。人们将带着喜悦欢喜、怀抱子女起舞、好像敞开家门般地住』。婆罗门,大胜王回答大臣婆罗门:『是的,尊者』后,对那些在王国土中努力从事耕作与养牛者,大胜王给予了种子与食物。对那些在王国土中努力从事商业者,大胜王给予了资本。对那些在王国土中努力从事王的服务者,大胜王分配了食物与薪酬。那些人们专注于自己工作时,不伤害王的国土,王有了大财富。国土安全地住立、无刺、不受压迫,人们带着喜悦欢喜、怀抱子女起舞、好像敞开家门般地住。那时,婆罗门,大胜王召唤大臣婆罗门后如是说:『尊者,依靠尊者的方法,盗贼群已被我根除,我有了大财富。国土安全地住立、无刺、不受压迫,人们带着喜悦欢喜、怀抱子女起舞、好像敞开家门般地住。婆罗门,我想举行大祭祀。愿尊者教诫我,那对我将长久利益与安乐』。

‘‘Rājā mahāvijito aṭṭhahaṅgehi samannāgato, ubhato sujāto mātito ca pitito ca saṃsuddhagahaṇiko yāva sattamā pitāmahayugā akkhitto anupakkuṭṭho jātivādena abhirūpo dassanīyo pāsādiko paramāya vaṇṇapokkharatāya samannāgato brahmavaṇṇī brahmavacchasī akhuddāvakāso dassanāya; aḍḍho mahaddhano mahābhogo pahūtajātarūparajato pahūtavittūpakaraṇo pahūtadhanadhañño paripuṇṇakosakoṭṭhāgāro; balavā caturaṅginiyā senāya samannāgato assavāya ovādapaṭikarāya sahati maññe paccatthike yasasā; saddho dāyako dānapati anāvaṭadvāro samaṇabrāhmaṇakapaṇaddhikavaṇibbakayācakānaṃ opānabhūto puññāni karoti; bahussuto tassa tassa sutajātassa, tassa tasseva kho pana bhāsitassa atthaṃ jānāti ‘ayaṃ imassa bhāsitassa attho ayaṃ imassa bhāsitassa attho’ti; paṇḍito, viyatto, medhāvī, paṭibalo, atītānāgatapaccuppanne atthe cintetuṃ. Rājā mahāvijito imehi aṭṭhahaṅgehi samannāgato. Iti imānipi aṭṭhaṅgāni tasseva yaññassa parikkhārā bhavanti.
「大胜王具足八支:两边善生——从母方和父方血统纯正直至七世父母,未被诽谤、未被轻蔑于出身方面;相好、好看、悦意,具足最胜的肤色清净,梵色、梵貌,无碍于观看;富有、大富、大财,丰足金银,丰足资财用具,丰足谷物财富,满溢库房仓库;有力,具足四支军队,有可教导、可听从的马队,能威服敌对者,以威势;有信、施主、施与主,门户不关闭,对沙门、婆罗门、贫穷者、行乞者、乞讨者作为开放处,作福德;多闻,对各种所闻种类的,对那各各所说的义理知晓:'这是这所说的义理,这是这所说的义理';贤者、通达者、有慧者,能够思惟过去、未来、现在的利益。大胜王具足这八支。如是这八支也成为那祭祀的资具。

‘‘Purohito brāhmaṇo catuhaṅgehi samannāgato. Ubhato sujāto mātito ca pitito ca saṃsuddhagahaṇiko yāva sattamā pitāmahayugā akkhitto anupakkuṭṭho jātivādena; ajjhāyako mantadharo tiṇṇaṃ vedānaṃ pāragū sanighaṇḍukeṭubhānaṃ sākkharappabhedānaṃ itihāsapañcamānaṃ padako veyyākaraṇo lokāyatamahāpurisalakkhaṇesu anavayo; sīlavā vuddhasīlī vuddhasīlena samannāgato; paṇḍito viyatto medhāvī paṭhamo vā dutiyo vā sujaṃ paggaṇhantānaṃ. Purohito brāhmaṇo imehi catūhaṅgehi samannāgato. Iti imāni cattāri aṅgāni tasseva yaññassa parikkhārā bhavanti.
「祭主婆罗门具足四支:两边善生,从母方和父方,纯正血统,直到第七代祖先,无可指责,不被轻蔑于出生方面;诵习者,持咒者,精通三吠陀,连同尼伽杜、祭轨、字句分析、传说为第五,通晓字句、语法、顺世论和大人相,无缺;具戒,长老戒,具足长老戒;贤智,聪明,慧敏,第一或第二举起祭杓者。祭主婆罗门具足这四支。如是这四支,即是那祭祀的资具。

Siyā kho pana bhoto rañño mahāyaññaṃ yiṭṭhukāmassa kocideva vippaṭisāro – ‘mahā vata me bhogakkhandho vigacchissatī’ti, so bhotā raññā vippaṭisāro na karaṇīyo. Siyā kho pana bhoto rañño mahāyaññaṃ yajamānassa kocideva vippaṭisāro – ‘mahā vata me bhogakkhandho vigacchatī’ti, so bhotā raññā vippaṭisāro na karaṇīyo. Siyā kho pana bhoto rañño mahāyaññaṃ yiṭṭhassa kocideva vippaṭisāro – ‘mahā vata me bhogakkhandho vigato’ti, so bhotā raññā vippaṭisāro na karaṇīyo’’ti. Imā kho, brāhmaṇa, purohito brāhmaṇo rañño mahāvijitassa pubbeva yaññā tisso vidhā desesi.
「那时,婆罗门,祭司婆罗门在祭祀之前为玛哈威基德王教示三种知识:如果尊者王想要行大祭时有任何后悔——『我的大财富确实将耗失』,那个后悔尊者王不应作。如果尊者王正在行大祭时有任何后悔——『我的大财富确实正在耗失』,那个后悔尊者王不应作。如果尊者王已行大祭后有任何后悔——『我的大财富确实已耗失』,那个后悔尊者王不应作。」婆罗门,这些是祭司婆罗门在祭祀之前为玛哈威基德王教示的三种知识。

「婆罗门!那时,大胜王的司祭婆罗门在祭祀之前,以十种方式消除对受施者的后悔:『尊者啊!将要来到祭祀的,有杀生者,也有离杀生者。其中那些杀生者,那是他们自己的事。那些离杀生者,依靠他们,尊者祭祀吧!尊者准备吧!尊者欢喜吧!唯愿尊者内心欢喜!将要来到尊者祭祀的,有不与取者,也有离不与取者。其中那些不与取者,那是他们自己的事。那些离不与取者,依靠他们,尊者祭祀吧!尊者准备吧!尊者欢喜吧!唯愿尊者内心欢喜!将要来到尊者祭祀的,有欲邪行者,也有离欲邪行者。其中那些欲邪行者,那是他们自己的事。那些离欲邪行者,依靠他们,尊者祭祀吧!尊者准备吧!尊者欢喜吧!唯愿尊者内心欢喜!将要来到尊者祭祀的,有妄语者,也有离妄语者。其中那些妄语者,那是他们自己的事。那些离妄语者,依靠他们,尊者祭祀吧!尊者准备吧!尊者欢喜吧!唯愿尊者内心欢喜!将要来到尊者祭祀的,有两舌者,也有离两舌者。其中那些两舌者,那是他们自己的事。那些离两舌者,依靠他们,尊者祭祀吧!尊者准备吧!尊者欢喜吧!唯愿尊者内心欢喜!将要来到尊者祭祀的,有粗恶语者,也有离粗恶语者。其中那些粗恶语者,那是他们自己的事。那些离粗恶语者,依靠他们,尊者祭祀吧!尊者准备吧!尊者欢喜吧!唯愿尊者内心欢喜!将要来到尊者祭祀的,有杂秽语者,也有离杂秽语者。其中那些杂秽语者,那是他们自己的事。那些离杂秽语者,依靠他们,尊者祭祀吧!尊者准备吧!尊者欢喜吧!唯愿尊者内心欢喜!将要来到尊者祭祀的,有贪欲者,也有不贪欲者。其中那些贪欲者,那是他们自己的事。那些不贪欲者,依靠他们,尊者祭祀吧!尊者准备吧!尊者欢喜吧!唯愿尊者内心欢喜!将要来到尊者祭祀的,有嗔心者,也有不嗔心者。其中那些嗔心者,那是他们自己的事。那些不嗔心者,依靠他们,尊者祭祀吧!尊者准备吧!尊者欢喜吧!唯愿尊者内心欢喜!将要来到尊者祭祀的,有邪见者,也有正见者。其中那些邪见者,那是他们自己的事。那些正见者,依靠他们,尊者祭祀吧!尊者准备吧!尊者欢喜吧!唯愿尊者内心欢喜!』婆罗门!大胜王的司祭婆罗门以这十种方式,在祭祀之前消除对受施者的后悔。」

「那时,婆罗门,祭司婆罗门向正在举行大供养的玛哈维基德王以十六种方式教示、劝导、鼓励、使其欢喜:『然而,尊者王正在举行大供养,或许会有某些言论者说:「玛哈维基德王确实正在举行大供养,但他并未召集刹帝利随从者、城邑的和乡村的;然而尊者王却举行如此的大供养。」如是,对尊者王的言论者,按法确实不存在。因为尊者王已召集了刹帝利随从者、城邑的和乡村的。凭此,请尊者王知晓:请尊者举行,请尊者准备,请尊者欢喜,请尊者内心只是随喜。

「大王进行大供养时,可能有某些人会说:『国王玛哈维基德进行大供养,但他没有邀请城市和乡间的大臣侍从……城市和乡间富裕的大婆罗门……城市和乡间聚集财富的家主们,而大王却进行如此的大供养。』这样对大王的说法如法地说是不存在的。大王确实已邀请了城市和乡间聚集财富的家主们。大王也以此应知:愿大王供养,愿大王准备,愿大王欢喜,愿大王内心生起净信。

「大王,可能会有某位说话者对正在行大祭的大王说:『大玛希基德王正在行大祭,但他并非父母两系都出身良好,血统清净直到七代祖先,在出生论上无可指摘、无可非难,然而大王却在举行这样的大祭。』如此对大王的说话,如法来说是不存在的。因为大王您确实是父母两系都出身良好,血统清净直到七代祖先,在出生论上无可指摘、无可非难。凭借这一点,大王应当知晓:愿大王祭祀吧,愿大王准备吧,愿大王欢喜吧,愿大王内心获得净信。

Imināpetaṃ bhavaṃ rājā jānātu , yajataṃ bhavaṃ, sajjataṃ bhavaṃ, modataṃ bhavaṃ, cittameva bhavaṃ antaraṃ pasādetu.
「然而,大王举行大祭时,可能有某个说话者(会说):『马哈威基德王举行大祭,但他并不端正、值得观看、令人喜悦、具足最高的肤色之美,不具有梵色、梵容,不值得观看……但马哈威基德王举行这样的大祭。』如此对大王的说话者,依法不存在。大王确实端正、值得观看、令人喜悦、具足最高的肤色之美,具有梵色、梵容,值得观看。以此大王也应知晓,大王请祭吧,大王请准备吧,大王请欢喜吧,大王请使内心清净。 「然而,大王举行大祭时,可能有某个说话者(会说):『马哈威基德王举行大祭,但他并不富裕、大财富、大资具,不具有大量的金银,不具有大量的财富资产,不具有大量的钱财谷物,不具有充满的库藏……但马哈威基德王举行这样的大祭。』如此对大王的说话者,依法不存在。大王确实富裕、大财富、大资具,具有大量的金银,具有大量的财富资产,具有大量的钱财谷物,具有充满的库藏。以此大王也应知晓,大王请祭吧,大王请准备吧,大王请欢喜吧,大王请使内心清净。 「然而,大王举行大祭时,可能有某个说话者(会说):『马哈威基德王举行大祭,但他并不有力,不具足四支军队——象军、马军、车军、步军,不能以威力劝导对敌,我想不能以名声压服敌对者……但马哈威基德王举行这样的大祭。』如此对大王的说话者,依法不存在。大王确实有力,具足四支军队——象军、马军、车军、步军,能以威力劝导对敌,能以名声压服敌对者。以此大王也应知晓,大王请祭吧,大王请准备吧,大王请欢喜吧,大王请使内心清净。 「然而,大王举行大祭时,可能有某个说话者(会说):『马哈威基德王举行大祭,但他并不是有信者、施与者、施主,不是对沙玛内拉、婆罗门、贫穷者、困苦者、乞讨者开门者,不是众生的依靠,不作福德……但马哈威基德王举行这样的大祭。』如此对大王的说话者,依法不存在。大王确实是有信者、施与者、施主,是对沙玛内拉、婆罗门、贫穷者、困苦者、乞讨者开门者,是众生的依靠,作福德。以此大王也应知晓,大王请祭吧,大王请准备吧,大王请欢喜吧,大王请使内心清净。 「然而,大王举行大祭时,可能有某个说话者(会说):『马哈威基德王举行大祭,但他并不多闻,不精通各种所闻的种类……但马哈威基德王举行这样的大祭。』如此对大王的说话者,依法不存在。大王确实多闻,精通各种所闻的种类。以此大王也应知晓,大王请祭吧,大王请准备吧,大王请欢喜吧,大王请使内心清净。 「然而,大王举行大祭时,可能有某个说话者(会说):『马哈威基德王举行大祭,但他不知晓任何所说的意义,不知道「这是那所说的意义,这是那所说的意义」……但马哈威基德王举行这样的大祭。』如此对大王的说话者,依法不存在。大王确实知晓任何所说的意义,知道「这是那所说的意义,这是那所说的意义」。以此大王也应知晓,大王请祭吧,大王请准备吧,大王请欢喜吧,大王请使内心清净。 「然而,大王举行大祭时,可能有某个说话者(会说):『马哈威基德王举行大祭,但他并不是贤者、精通者、有慧者,不能够思考过去、未来、现在的义利,而大王却举行这样的大祭。』如此对大王的说话者,依法不存在。大王确实是贤者、精通者、有慧者,能够思考过去、未来、现在的义利。以此大王也应知晓,大王请祭吧,大王请准备吧,大王请欢喜吧,大王请使内心清净。

「大王若举行大祭时,或有某人会说:『大威胜王举行大祭,然而他的王师婆罗门却不是两系皆善生——母系和父系皆纯净血统,直到七代祖先皆无可指摘、无可诋毁的出生;然而尊者王却举行如此大祭。』如是对大王的指责如法地不存在。大王的王师婆罗门是两系皆善生——母系和父系皆纯净血统,直到七代祖先皆无可指摘、无可诋毁的出生。以此,大王应当知道:愿尊者祭祀,愿尊者准备,愿尊者欢喜,愿尊者内心喜悦。」

Evampi bhoto rañño vattā dhammato natthi. Bhoto kho pana rañño purohito brāhmaṇo paṇḍito viyatto medhāvī paṭhamo vā dutiyo vā sujaṃ paggaṇhantānaṃ. Imināpetaṃ bhavaṃ rājā jānātu, yajataṃ bhavaṃ, sajjataṃ bhavaṃ, modataṃ bhavaṃ, cittameva bhavaṃ antaraṃ pasādetūti. Imehi kho, brāhmaṇa, purohito brāhmaṇo rañño mahāvijitassa mahāyaññaṃ yajamānassa soḷasahi ākārehi cittaṃ sandassesi samādapesi samuttejesi sampahaṃsesi.
「又,尊贵的国王正在举行大祭时,可能有某些说者说:『国王大胜者正在举行大祭。然而他的司祭婆罗门并非通晓诵习者、持咒者、精通三吠陀、通达字句注疏、音韵词源、史诗为第五者、句法者、文法者、世间论和大丈夫相者,……然而他的司祭婆罗门并非具戒者、耆戒者、具备耆戒者,……然而他的司祭婆罗门并非贤智者、聪慧者、有智者、第一或第二地握取供牺者,然而尊贵的国王却举行这样的大祭』。这样说尊贵的国王的说者如法不存在。尊贵的国王的司祭婆罗门是贤智者、聪慧者、有智者、第一或第二地握取供牺者。以此也请尊贵的国王知道,尊贵的请祭祀吧,尊贵的请庄严吧,尊贵的请欢乐吧,尊贵的请单独使内心清净吧」。婆罗门,以这十六种方式,司祭婆罗门对国王大胜者正在举行大祭的,示现、劝导、鼓励、使之欢喜内心。

‘‘Tasmiṃ kho, brāhmaṇa, yaññe neva gāvo haññiṃsu, na ajeḷakā haññiṃsu, na kukkuṭasūkarā haññiṃsu, na vividhā pāṇā saṃghātaṃ āpajjiṃsu, na rukkhā chijjiṃsu yūpatthāya, na dabbhā lūyiṃsu barihisatthāya . Yepissa ahesuṃ dāsāti vā pessāti vā kammakarāti vā, tepi na daṇḍatajjitā na bhayatajjitā na assumukhā rudamānā parikammāni akaṃsu. Atha kho ye icchiṃsu, te akaṃsu, ye na icchiṃsu, na te akaṃsu; yaṃ icchiṃsu, taṃ akaṃsu, yaṃ na icchiṃsu, na taṃ akaṃsu. Sappitelanavanītadadhimadhuphāṇitena ceva so yañño niṭṭhānamagamāsi.
「婆罗门,在那场祭祀中,没有牛被杀,没有山羊和绵羊被杀,没有鸡和猪被杀,没有各种动物被杀害。没有树木被砍伐作为祭祀柱,没有吉祥草被割来铺设。那些仆人、信使、雇工也不是被棍棒威胁、被恐惧驱使、流着泪水而工作的。愿意做的就做,不愿意做的就不做。只用酥、油、生酥、蜜、糖蜜来完成那场祭祀。

‘‘Atha kho, brāhmaṇa, khattiyā ānuyantā negamā ceva jānapadā ca, amaccā pārisajjā negamā ceva jānapadā ca, brāhmaṇamahāsālā negamā ceva jānapadā ca, gahapatinecayikā negamā ceva jānapadā ca pahūtaṃ sāpateyyaṃ ādāya rājānaṃ mahāvijitaṃ upasaṅkamitvā evamāhaṃsu – ‘idaṃ, deva, pahūtaṃ sāpateyyaṃ devaññeva uddissābhataṃ, taṃ devo paṭiggaṇhātū’ti. ‘Alaṃ, bho, mamāpidaṃ pahūtaṃ sāpateyyaṃ dhammikena balinā abhisaṅkhataṃ; tañca vo hotu, ito ca bhiyyo harathā’ti. Te raññā paṭikkhittā ekamantaṃ apakkamma evaṃ samacintesuṃ – ‘na kho etaṃ amhākaṃ patirūpaṃ, yaṃ mayaṃ imāni sāpateyyāni punadeva sakāni gharāni paṭihareyyāma. Rājā kho mahāvijito mahāyaññaṃ yajati, handassa mayaṃ anuyāgino homā’ti.
「那时,婆罗门,城镇与乡村的刹帝利随从们,城镇与乡村的大臣廷臣们,城镇与乡村的富有婆罗门们,城镇与乡村的富裕屋主们,携带大量自己的财物,前往大胜王处,如此说:『陛下,这大量自己的财物是为陛下带来的,愿陛下接受。』『够了,各位,我也有大量自己的财物,由如法的赋税所积聚;那就给你们吧,从这里拿走更多。』他们被王拒绝后,退到一旁,如此思惟:『我们将这些自己的财物再带回自己的家,这对我们不适当。大胜王举行大祭,来吧,我们成为随行祭者。』

‘‘Atha kho, brāhmaṇa, puratthimena yaññavāṭassa khattiyā ānuyantā negamā ceva jānapadā ca dānāni paṭṭhapesuṃ. Dakkhiṇena yaññavāṭassa amaccā pārisajjā negamā ceva jānapadā ca dānāni paṭṭhapesuṃ. Pacchimena yaññavāṭassa brāhmaṇamahāsālā negamā ceva jānapadā ca dānāni paṭṭhapesuṃ. Uttarena yaññavāṭassa gahapatinecayikā negamā ceva jānapadā ca dānāni paṭṭhapesuṃ.
「于是,婆罗门,在祭祀场的东面,追随的刹帝利——城镇的和乡村的——设立了布施。在南面,大臣侍从——城镇的和乡村的——设立了布施。在西面,婆罗门大族——城镇的和乡村的——设立了布施。在北面,居士大族——城镇的和乡村的——设立了布施。

「如是,四种随喜,大胜王具足八种条件,辅师婆罗门具足四种条件;三种祭祀成就,十六项祭祀资具——婆罗门,此即三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具。」

Evaṃ vutte, te brāhmaṇā unnādino uccāsaddamahāsaddā ahesuṃ – ‘‘aho yañño, aho yaññasampadā’’ti! Kūṭadanto pana brāhmaṇo tūṇhībhūtova nisinno hoti. Atha kho te brāhmaṇā kūṭadantaṃ brāhmaṇaṃ etadavocuṃ – ‘‘kasmā pana bhavaṃ kūṭadanto samaṇassa gotamassa subhāsitaṃ subhāsitato nābbhanumodatī’’ti? ‘‘Nāhaṃ, bho, samaṇassa gotamassa subhāsitaṃ subhāsitato nābbhanumodāmi. Muddhāpi tassa vipateyya, yo samaṇassa gotamassa subhāsitaṃ subhāsitato nābbhanumodeyya. Api ca me, bho, evaṃ hoti – samaṇo gotamo na evamāha – ‘evaṃ me suta’nti vā ‘evaṃ arahati bhavitu’nti vā; api ca samaṇo gotamo – ‘evaṃ tadā āsi, itthaṃ tadā āsi’ tveva bhāsati. Tassa mayhaṃ bho evaṃ hoti – ‘addhā samaṇo gotamo tena samayena rājā vā ahosi mahāvijito yaññassāmi purohito vā brāhmaṇo tassa yaññassa yājetā’ti. Abhijānāti pana bhavaṃ gotamo evarūpaṃ yaññaṃ yajitvā vā yājetvā vā kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapajjitāti’’? ‘‘Abhijānāmahaṃ, brāhmaṇa, evarūpaṃ yaññaṃ yajitvā vā yājetvā vā kāyassa bhedā paraṃ maraṇā sugatiṃ saggaṃ lokaṃ upapajjitā, ahaṃ tena samayena purohito brāhmaṇo ahosiṃ tassa yaññassa yājetā’’ti.
如是说时,那些婆罗门们高声大叫、巨声喧哗:「啊!祭祀!啊!祭祀的成就!」然而咖咖丹德婆罗门却默然而坐。那时,那些婆罗门们对咖咖丹德婆罗门这样说:「为什么咖咖丹德尊者不随喜沙门果德玛的善说为善说呢?」「诸贤!我并非不随喜沙门果德玛的善说为善说。谁若不随喜沙门果德玛的善说为善说,他的头应该裂开。但是,诸贤!我这样想:沙门果德玛不这样说『我如是听闻』或『应如是存在』,而是沙门果德玛只是如此说『当时如是,当时如彼』。诸贤!我这样想:『沙门果德玛当时确实是行大祭祀的大威胜王,或是行彼祭祀的婆罗门祭司』。那么,果德玛尊者知道行过如此祭祀或使行过如此祭祀后,身坏命终,往生善趣天界吗?」「婆罗门!我知道行过如此祭祀或使行过如此祭祀后,身坏命终,往生善趣天界,我当时是使行彼祭祀的婆罗门祭司。」
Niccadānaanukulayaññaṃ常施随顺祭祀
§349
‘‘Atthi pana, bho gotama, añño yañño imāya tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti?
「尊者果德玛,是否还有其他祭祀比这三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具更少花费、更少劳烦,而果报和功德更大的?」
‘‘Atthi kho, brāhmaṇa, añño yañño imāya tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti.
「有的,婆罗门,还有其他祭祀比这三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具更少花费、更少劳烦,而果报和功德更大的。」
‘‘Katamo pana so, bho gotama, yañño imāya tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti?
「那么,尊者果德玛,那是什么祭祀,比这三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具更少花费、更少劳烦,而果报和功德更大的?」
‘‘Yāni kho pana tāni, brāhmaṇa, niccadānāni anukulayaññāni sīlavante pabbajite uddissa diyyanti; ayaṃ kho, brāhmaṇa, yañño imāya tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti.
「婆罗门,凡是以持戒的出家人为对象而作的常施和随顺祭祀,婆罗门,这种祭祀比那三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具更少花费、更少劳烦,而果报和功德更大。」
‘‘Ko nu kho, bho gotama, hetu ko paccayo, yena taṃ niccadānaṃ anukulayaññaṃ imāya tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya appaṭṭhatarañca appasamārambhatarañca mahapphalatarañca mahānisaṃsatarañcā’’ti ?
「尊者果德玛,是什么原因、什么因缘,那常施随顺祭祀比三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具更少花费、更少劳烦,而果报和功德更大呢?」
‘‘Na kho, brāhmaṇa, evarūpaṃ yaññaṃ upasaṅkamanti arahanto vā arahattamaggaṃ vā samāpannā. Taṃ kissa hetu? Dissanti hettha, brāhmaṇa, daṇḍappahārāpi galaggahāpi, tasmā evarūpaṃ yaññaṃ na upasaṅkamanti arahanto vā arahattamaggaṃ vā samāpannā. Yāni kho pana tāni, brāhmaṇa, niccadānāni anukulayaññāni sīlavante pabbajite uddissa diyyanti; evarūpaṃ kho, brāhmaṇa, yaññaṃ upasaṅkamanti arahanto vā arahattamaggaṃ vā samāpannā. Taṃ kissa hetu? Na hettha, brāhmaṇa, dissanti daṇḍappahārāpi galaggahāpi, tasmā evarūpaṃ yaññaṃ upasaṅkamanti arahanto vā arahattamaggaṃ vā samāpannā. Ayaṃ kho, brāhmaṇa, hetu ayaṃ paccayo, yena taṃ niccadānaṃ anukulayaññaṃ imāya tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya appaṭṭhatarañca appasamārambhatarañca mahapphalatarañca mahānisaṃsatarañcā’’ti.
「婆罗门!阿拉汉或已证得阿拉汉道者不接近那样的祭祀。那是什么原因呢?婆罗门!因为在那里见到以棍杖击打和捉颈,因此阿拉汉或已证得阿拉汉道者不接近那样的祭祀。婆罗门!但凡那些常施、顺利祭祀,是施给持戒的出家者的;婆罗门!阿拉汉或已证得阿拉汉道者接近那样的祭祀。那是什么原因呢?婆罗门!因为在那里不见到以棍杖击打和捉颈,因此阿拉汉或已证得阿拉汉道者接近那样的祭祀。婆罗门!这是原因,这是理由,为何那常施、顺利祭祀比这三种祭祀成就、十六种资具,更少损害、更少准备、更大果报、更大利益。」

「尊者果德玛,是否还有其他祭祀比这三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具以及这常施随顺祭祀更少花费、更少劳烦,而果报和功德更大的?」
‘‘Atthi kho, brāhmaṇa, añño yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti.
「婆罗门,有另一种祭祀,比这具备三种祭祀成就和十六种资具的这个常施顺意祭祀更少花费、更少操劳、更大果报、更大利益。」
‘‘Katamo pana so, bho gotama, yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti?
「那么,尊敬的果德玛,什么是那样的祭祀,比具足这三种祭祀圆满、十六种资具、这个伴随着经常布施的适当祭祀,更少麻烦、更少经营、更大果、更大功德呢?」
‘‘Yo kho, brāhmaṇa, cātuddisaṃ saṅghaṃ uddissa vihāraṃ karoti, ayaṃ kho , brāhmaṇa, yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti.
「婆罗门,若有人为来自四方的僧团建造精舍,婆罗门,这种祭祀比那三种祭祀成就和十六项祭祀资具以及常施随顺祭祀更少花费、更少劳烦,而果报和功德更大。」

‘‘Atthi pana, bho gotama, añño yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena iminā ca vihāradānena appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti?
「但是,尊者果德玛,是否有其他的祭祀比这三种祭祀之成就、十六种资具、这常施之随顺祭祀、以及这精舍之布施更少烦扰、更少造作、更大果报、更大利益呢?」
‘‘Atthi kho, brāhmaṇa, añño yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena iminā ca vihāradānena appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti.
「婆罗门!有另一个祭祀,比这具三种祭祀圆满、十六种资具的祭祀、这常施祭祀、这施僧住处更无恼害、更无纷扰、更有大果、更有大利益。」
‘‘Katamo pana so, bho gotama, yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena iminā ca vihāradānena appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti?
「可是,果德玛先生,什么样的祭祀比具有这三种祭祀圆满、十六种用具的这个祭祀、比这个随顺祭祀的常布施、比这个精舍布施更少烦扰、更少操劳、有更大果报、有更大利益呢?」
‘‘Yo kho, brāhmaṇa, pasannacitto buddhaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchati, dhammaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchati, saṅghaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchati; ayaṃ kho, brāhmaṇa, yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena iminā ca vihāradānena appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti.
「婆罗门!以净信心归依佛、归依法、归依僧团者,婆罗门!这祭祀比这三种祭祀成就及十六种祭祀用具、这常施食的顺应祭祀、这住处布施,更少麻烦、更少劳累、更大果报、更大利益。」

‘‘Atthi pana, bho gotama, añño yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena iminā ca vihāradānena imehi ca saraṇagamanehi appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti?
「然而,果德玛尊者,是否有其他的祭祀,比这三种祭祀圆满具足十六种资具,比这恒常布施、随顺祭祀,比这寺院布施,比这些归依更少烦恼、更少执取、有更大果报、有更大利益呢?」
‘‘Atthi kho, brāhmaṇa, añño yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena iminā ca vihāradānena imehi ca saraṇagamanehi appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti.
「婆罗门,另有一种供养,比此三种供养圆满与十六种资具,比此常施而随顺的供养,比此精舍布施,比这些归依更少恼害、更少经营、更大果报、更大利益。」
‘‘Katamo pana so, bho gotama, yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena iminā ca vihāradānena imehi ca saraṇagamanehi appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti?
「那么,果德玛尊者,哪一种祭祀,比这具有三种祭祀的成就和十六种资具的祭祀,比这常施与祭祀,比这寺院布施,比这些归依,更少麻烦、更少操劳、更大果报、更大利益呢?」
‘‘Yo kho, brāhmaṇa, pasannacitto sikkhāpadāni samādiyati – pāṇātipātā veramaṇiṃ, adinnādānā veramaṇiṃ, kāmesumicchācārā veramaṇiṃ, musāvādā veramaṇiṃ, surāmerayamajjapamādaṭṭhānā veramaṇiṃ. Ayaṃ kho, brāhmaṇa, yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena iminā ca vihāradānena imehi ca saraṇagamanehi appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti.
「婆罗门!以净信心受持学处——离杀生、离不与取、离欲邪行、离妄语、离诸酒放逸处。婆罗门!此祭祀比那个具三种祭祀圆满与十六种祭具、这恒常布施与随顺祭祀、这精舍布施、这些归依更少花费、更少麻烦、更多大果、更多大利益。」

「然而,果德玛先生,是否有其他的祭祀比这三方面具足的祭祀、十六种资具、这常施、随顺祭祀、这精舍布施、这些归依、这些学处更少烦恼、更少筹备、更大果报、更大利益呢?」
‘‘Atthi kho, brāhmaṇa, añño yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena iminā ca vihāradānena imehi ca saraṇagamanehi imehi ca sikkhāpadehi appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti.
「婆罗门!有另一种祭祀,比这三种祭祀成就及十六种资具,比这常施祭,比这顺利祭,比这精舍之施,比这些归依,比这些学处,更少恼害、更少经营、更大果报、更大利益。」
‘‘Katamo pana so, bho gotama, yañño imāya ca tividhāya yaññasampadāya soḷasaparikkhārāya iminā ca niccadānena anukulayaññena iminā ca vihāradānena imehi ca saraṇagamanehi imehi ca sikkhāpadehi appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cā’’ti?
「果德玛尊者,那什么供养比这三种圆满供养、十六种资具供养、这日常布施的顺应供养、这住所布施、这些归依、这些学处更少劳烦、更少经营、更大果报、更大利益呢?」
‘‘Idha, brāhmaṇa, tathāgato loke uppajjati arahaṃ sammāsambuddho…pe… (yathā 190-212 anucchedesu, evaṃ vitthāretabbaṃ). Evaṃ kho, brāhmaṇa, bhikkhu sīlasampanno hoti…pe… paṭhamaṃ jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayaṃ kho, brāhmaṇa, yañño purimehi yaññehi appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro ca…pe… dutiyaṃ jhānaṃ…pe… tatiyaṃ jhānaṃ…pe… catutthaṃ jhānaṃ upasampajja viharati. Ayampi kho, brāhmaṇa, yañño purimehi yaññehi appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro cāti. Ñāṇadassanāya cittaṃ abhinīharati abhininnāmeti…pe… ayampi kho, brāhmaṇa, yañño purimehi yaññehi appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro ca…pe… nāparaṃ itthattāyāti pajānāti. Ayampi kho, brāhmaṇa, yañño purimehi yaññehi appaṭṭhataro ca appasamārambhataro ca mahapphalataro ca mahānisaṃsataro ca. Imāya ca, brāhmaṇa, yaññasampadāya aññā yaññasampadā uttaritarā vā paṇītatarā vā natthī’’ti.
「婆罗门!在这里,如来出现于世间,是阿拉汉、正自觉者、明行具足、善逝、世间解、无上调御丈夫、天人师、觉者、世尊。他以证智自作证后宣说此含天、魔、梵的世间,含沙玛内拉、婆罗门、天、人的世代。他说示初善、中善、后善、有义、有文的法,宣示完全圆满、遍净的梵行。居士或居士子或生于其他族姓者听闻那法。他听闻那法后对如来获得信。具有那信后,他如是观察:『家居是障碍,是尘垢之路;出家是露地。住在家中,不容易行完全圆满、完全清净如磨亮的螺贝的梵行。让我剃除须发,披上袈裟衣,从家出家成为非家。』他过些时候,舍弃小财聚或舍弃大财聚,舍弃小亲戚圈或舍弃大亲戚圈,剃除须发,披上袈裟衣,从家出家成为非家。 他这样出家后,具足比库的学处和生活方式,舍断杀生后,是离杀生者,舍弃棍棒,舍弃刀剑,有惭,有悲愍,对一切有生命者住于利益、怜愍。舍断不与取后,是与取者、期待与物者,以不盗取而住于自己清净。舍断非梵行后,是梵行者,是远离者,远离众人的俗法、交媾。舍断妄语后,是真实语者,紧系真实,可信赖,可信靠,对世间不欺诳。舍断两舌后,不从这里听而到那里说以离间这些人,或不从那里听而到这里说以离间那些人,这样是团结分裂者,和合的支持者,乐和合、喜和合、欢喜和合,是说作和合之语者。舍断粗恶语后,是说柔和、悦耳、可爱、入心、优雅、众人所喜、众人所意之语者。舍断杂秽语后,是适时语者、实语者、有义语者、法语者、律语者,说有价值、有理由、有限制、具义利之语。 他是离破坏种子类和植物类者。是一日一食者,夜间离食,离非时食。是离观看跳舞、歌唱、音乐、表演者。是离佩戴、装饰花环、香、涂香者。是离高床、大床者。是离接受金银者。是离接受生谷者。是离接受生肉者。是离接受女人、少女者。是离接受婢女、奴仆者。是离接受山羊、绵羊者。是离接受鸡、猪者。是离接受象、牛、马、马驹者。是离接受田地者。是离行使节或前去使节者。是离买卖者。是离在秤量、金钱、度量上欺诈者。是离受贿、欺骗、诈欺者。是离伤害、杀戮、捆绑、抢夺、掠夺、暴力者。 他以覆蔽身体的衣服为满足,以滋养腹部的施食为满足,无论去何处都只携带这些而行。譬如有翼的鸟,无论飞到何处,只以翅膀之负担而飞;同样地,比库以覆蔽身体的衣服为满足,以滋养腹部的施食为满足,无论去何处都只携带这些而行。他具足此圣戒蕴,感受内无罪过之乐。 他以眼见色后,不取相,不取随相。因为若不防护眼根而住,贪、忧、诸恶不善法会流入,他为其防护而行道,守护眼根,在眼根上达到防护。以耳听声后……以鼻嗅香后……以舌尝味后……以身触所触后……以意识法后,不取相,不取随相。因为若不防护意根而住,贪、忧、诸恶不善法会流入,他为其防护而行道,守护意根,在意根上达到防护。他具足此圣根律仪,感受内无杂染之乐。 他在前进、后退时是正知者;在前视、旁视时是正知者;在屈、伸时是正知者;在持桑喀帝、钵、衣时是正知者;在食、饮、咀嚼、品尝时是正知者;在大小便时是正知者;在行、住、坐、睡、醒、语、默时是正知者。 他具足此圣戒,具足此圣根律仪,具足此圣念正知,前往空闲的卧坐处——林野、树下、山岳、山谷、山洞、冢间、林丛、露地、稻草堆。他行乞后从行乞归来,坐于所设座位,结跏趺坐,使身体正直,现起念于面前。他舍断对世间的贪后,以离贪之心而住,从贪净化心。舍断嗔恨后,以无嗔恨之心而住,对一切有生命者怜愍,从嗔恨净化心。舍断昏沉睡眠后,以离昏沉睡眠而住,有光明想,具念、正知,从昏沉睡眠净化心。舍断掉举追悔后,以不掉举而住,内心寂静,从掉举追悔净化心。舍断疑后,以度脱疑而住,对善法无疑惑,从疑净化心。 他舍断这五盖——心的随烦恼、慧的减弱者后,离诸欲,离诸不善法,有寻、有伺,离生喜、乐,达到并住于第一禅那。婆罗门!这祭祀比以前诸祭祀更少恼害、更少劳役、更大果、更大利益。 寻、伺止息后,内净,心一境性,无寻、无伺,定生喜、乐,达到并住于第二禅那。婆罗门!这祭祀比以前诸祭祀更少恼害、更少劳役、更大果、更大利益。 离喜后,住于舍,具念、正知,以身受乐,如诸圣者所说『具舍、具念者住于乐』,达到并住于第三禅那。婆罗门!这祭祀比以前诸祭祀更少恼害、更少劳役、更大果、更大利益。 断乐、断苦,先前喜、忧已灭没,不苦不乐,舍念清净,达到并住于第四禅那。婆罗门!这祭祀也比以前诸祭祀更少恼害、更少劳役、更大果、更大利益。 他如是心得定,清净、净白、无秽、离随烦恼、柔软、适业、住立、达不动后,引导心、倾心向智见。他如是了知:『此我身是色所成,由四大种所成,由父母所生,由饭粥所积聚,是无常性、粉碎性、破坏性、断绝性、坏灭性;而此我识住于此处,系于此处。』婆罗门!这祭祀也比以前诸祭祀更少恼害、更少劳役、更大果、更大利益。 他如是心得定,清净、净白、无秽、离随烦恼、柔软、适业、住立、达不动后,引导心、倾心向意所成身。他从此身化作另一色身,意所成,具一切肢节,诸根无缺。譬如有人从芦苇拔出芦苇茎,他如是思惟:『这是芦苇,这是茎,芦苇是一,茎是一,但茎从芦苇被拔出』;或譬如有人从鞘拔出刀,他如是思惟:『这是刀,这是鞘,刀是一,鞘是一,但刀从鞘被拔出』;或譬如有人从蛇蜕拉出蛇,他如是思惟:『这是蛇,这是蜕,蛇是一,蜕是一,但蛇从蜕被拉出』;同样地,他从此身化作另一色身,意所成,具一切肢节,诸根无缺。婆罗门!这祭祀也比以前诸祭祀更少恼害、更少劳役、更大果、更大利益。 他如是心得定,清净、净白、无秽、离随烦恼、柔软、适业、住立、达不动后,引导心、倾心向神变。他经验多种神变:一人成多人,多人成一人;显现,隐没;穿墙、穿壁、穿山,行如虚空无碍;于地中出没如水中;于水上行如地上不陷;于虚空中结跏趺坐而行如有翼之鸟;以手触摸、抚摸此大神力、大威力之日月;以身到达梵天界。譬如熟练的陶师或陶师弟子,从善造作的陶土随愿做成任何种类的陶器;或譬如熟练的象牙工或象牙工弟子,从善造作的象牙随愿做成任何种类的象牙制品;或譬如熟练的金工或金工弟子,从善造作的金随愿做成任何种类的金制品;同样地,他如是心得定,清净、净白、无秽、离随烦恼、柔软、适业、住立、达不动后,引导心、倾心向神变。他经验多种神变:一人成多人,多人成一人;显现,隐没;穿墙、穿壁、穿山,行如虚空无碍;于地中出没如水中;于水上行如地上不陷;于虚空中结跏趺坐而行如有翼之鸟;以手触摸、抚摸此大神力、大威力之日月;以身到达梵天界。婆罗门!这祭祀也比以前诸祭祀更少恼害、更少劳役、更大果、更大利益。 他如是心得定,清净、净白、无秽、离随烦恼、柔软、适业、住立、达不动后,引导心、倾心向天耳界。他以清净、超人的天耳界,听到远、近两种声音——天的和人的。譬如有人行于大道,他听到大鼓声、小鼓声、螺声、铙钹声、手鼓声,他如是了知:『这是大鼓声,这是小鼓声,这是螺声,这是铙钹声,这是手鼓声』;同样地,他以清净、超人的天耳界,听到远、近两种声音——天的和人的。婆罗门!这祭祀也比以前诸祭祀更少恼害、更少劳役、更大果、更大利益。 他如是心得定,清净、净白、无秽、离随烦恼、柔软、适业、住立、达不动后,引导心、倾心向他心智。他以心了知其他有情、其他人的心:有贪心了知为『有贪心』,离贪心了知为『离贪心』;有嗔心了知为『有嗔心』,离嗔心了知为『离嗔心』;有痴心了知为『有痴心』,离痴心了知为『离痴心』;收缩心了知为『收缩心』,散乱心了知为『散乱心』;广大心了知为『广大心』,不广大心了知为『不广大心』;有上心了知为『有上心』,无上心了知为『无上心』;得定心了知为『得定心』,不定心了知为『不定心』;解脱心了知为『解脱心』,未解脱心了知为『未解脱心』。婆罗门!这祭祀也比以前诸祭祀更少恼害、更少劳役、更大果、更大利益。 他如是心得定,清净、净白、无秽、离随烦恼、柔软、适业、住立、达不动后,引导心、倾心向忆宿命智。他忆念种种宿命:一生、二生、三生、四生、五生、十生、二十生、三十生、四十生、五十生、百生、千生、百千生、许多坏劫、许多成劫、许多成坏劫:『我在那里有如是名、如是姓、如是色、如是食、如是受乐苦、如是寿量;从那里死后,我生在那里;在那里也有如是名、如是姓、如是色、如是食、如是受乐苦、如是寿量;从那里死后,我生在这里。』这样以形相、名称忆念种种宿命。譬如有人从自己村到另一村,从那村到另一村,从那村又回到自己村。他如是思惟:『我从自己村到那村,在那里如是站、如是坐、如是语、如是默;我从那村到那村,在那里也如是站、如是坐、如是语、如是默;我从那村

Evaṃ vutte, kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo bhagavantaṃ etadavoca – ‘‘abhikkantaṃ, bho gotama, abhikkantaṃ, bho gotama! Seyyathāpi bho gotama, nikkujjitaṃ vā ukkujjeyya, paṭicchannaṃ vā vivareyya, mūḷhassa vā maggaṃ ācikkheyya, andhakāre vā telapajjotaṃ dhāreyya ‘cakkhumanto rūpāni dakkhantī’ti; evamevaṃ bhotā gotamena anekapariyāyena dhammo pakāsito. Esāhaṃ bhavantaṃ gotamaṃ saraṇaṃ gacchāmi dhammañca bhikkhusaṅghañca. Upāsakaṃ maṃ bhavaṃ gotamo dhāretu ajjatagge pāṇupetaṃ saraṇaṃ gataṃ. Esāhaṃ bho gotama satta ca usabhasatāni satta ca vacchatarasatāni satta ca vacchatarīsatāni satta ca ajasatāni satta ca urabbhasatāni muñcāmi, jīvitaṃ demi, haritāni ceva tiṇāni khādantu, sītāni ca pānīyāni pivantu, sīto ca nesaṃ vāto upavāyatū’’ti.
如是说已,估多旦多婆罗门对世尊说:「妙哉,尊者果德玛!妙哉,尊者果德玛!尊者果德玛,犹如将倒覆的扶正,将隐蔽的揭开,为迷路者指路,在黑暗中持灯——『有眼者能见诸色』;同样地,尊者果德玛以种种方式阐明了法。我归依尊者果德玛、归依法、归依比库僧团。请尊者果德玛接受我为近事男,从今日起终身归依。我释放那七百头公牛、七百头小公牛、七百头母牛、七百头山羊、七百只公羊,给予它们生命。让它们吃青草,饮清水,享受凉风吹拂。请尊者果德玛明日与比库僧团一起接受我的供食。」世尊以沉默表示接受。

Atha kho bhagavā kūṭadantassa brāhmaṇassa anupubbiṃ kathaṃ kathesi, seyyathidaṃ, dānakathaṃ sīlakathaṃ saggakathaṃ; kāmānaṃ ādīnavaṃ okāraṃ saṃkilesaṃ nekkhamme ānisaṃsaṃ pakāsesi. Yadā bhagavā aññāsi kūṭadantaṃ brāhmaṇaṃ kallacittaṃ muducittaṃ vinīvaraṇacittaṃ udaggacittaṃ pasannacittaṃ, atha yā buddhānaṃ sāmukkaṃsikā dhammadesanā, taṃ pakāsesi – dukkhaṃ samudayaṃ nirodhaṃ maggaṃ. Seyyathāpi nāma suddhaṃ vatthaṃ apagatakāḷakaṃ sammadeva rajanaṃ paṭiggaṇheyya, evameva kūṭadantassa brāhmaṇassa tasmiññeva āsane virajaṃ vītamalaṃ dhammacakkhuṃ udapādi – ‘‘yaṃ kiñci samudayadhammaṃ, sabbaṃ taṃ nirodhadhamma’’nti.
于是世尊为估多旦多婆罗门次第说法,即布施论、持戒论、生天论;开示欲的过患、卑下、染污,以及出离的功德。当世尊了知估多旦多婆罗门的心已准备好、柔软、离障碍、欢喜、明净时,就为他开示诸佛特有的法义——苦、集、灭、道。犹如洁净无染的布匹能完美地吸收染料;同样地,估多旦多婆罗门就在那座位上,远尘离垢,生起法眼:『凡是集法,一切皆是灭法。』

Atha kho kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo diṭṭhadhammo pattadhammo viditadhammo pariyogāḷhadhammo tiṇṇavicikiccho vigatakathaṃkatho vesārajjappatto aparappaccayo satthusāsane bhagavantaṃ etadavoca – ‘‘adhivāsetu me bhavaṃ gotamo svātanāya bhattaṃ saddhiṃ bhikkhusaṅghenā’’ti. Adhivāsesi bhagavā tuṇhībhāvena.
于是估多旦多婆罗门见法、得法、知法、深入法,超越疑惑、离犹豫,得到无畏,于导师之教不依他人,对世尊说:「请尊者果德玛明日与比库僧团一起接受我的供食。」世尊以沉默表示接受。

Atha kho kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo bhagavato adhivāsanaṃ viditvā uṭṭhāyāsanā bhagavantaṃ abhivādetvā padakkhiṇaṃ katvā pakkāmi. Atha kho kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo tassā rattiyā accayena sake yaññavāṭe paṇītaṃ khādanīyaṃ bhojanīyaṃ paṭiyādāpetvā bhagavato kālaṃ ārocāpesi – ‘‘kālo, bho gotama; niṭṭhitaṃ bhatta’’nti.
其时,苦德丹德婆罗门知晓世尊已允诺后,从座起立,礼敬世尊,行右绕后离去。其时,苦德丹德婆罗门于那夜过后,在自己的祭场准备了殊妙的副食和主食后,使人向世尊报告时间:「果德玛先生,时候已到,饮食已办。」

Atha kho bhagavā pubbaṇhasamayaṃ nivāsetvā pattacīvaramādāya saddhiṃ bhikkhusaṅghena yena kūṭadantassa brāhmaṇassa yaññavāṭo tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā paññatte āsane nisīdi.
于是世尊在上午时分,着下衣、持钵和外衣,与比库僧团一起前往估多旦多婆罗门的祭祀棚;到达后,在已设好的座位上坐下。
Atha kho kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo buddhappamukhaṃ bhikkhusaṅghaṃ paṇītena khādanīyena bhojanīyena sahatthā santappesi sampavāresi. Atha kho kūṭadanto brāhmaṇo bhagavantaṃ bhuttāviṃ onītapattapāṇiṃ aññataraṃ nīcaṃ āsanaṃ gahetvā ekamantaṃ nisīdi. Ekamantaṃ nisinnaṃ kho kūṭadantaṃ brāhmaṇaṃ bhagavā dhammiyā kathāya sandassetvā samādapetvā samuttejetvā sampahaṃsetvā uṭṭhāyāsanā pakkāmīti.
估多旦多婆罗门亲手以精美的副食和主食供养以佛陀为首的比库僧团,使其满足、尽兴。估多旦多婆罗门在世尊食毕、放下钵后,取一低座坐在一旁。世尊以法语教导、劝勉、激励、鼓舞估多旦多婆罗门后,从座位起身离去。
